Notes : Genus of about 150 species. ‘Thompsonii’ has decorative variegated leaves. Can be very free-flowering under the right conditions. Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil.

In a warm coastal garden, plant it in full sun, in a wind-protected position. Inland – plant in semi-shade. In areas of light frost, choose a very warm, sheltered spot. Keep it well watered, especially during dry Summer weather.

Flower colors range from red, orange, yellow and white. Prune back in late Winter or early Spring. Propagate by cuttings – either hardwood in Winter or semi-soft wood in Summer. Pests and diseases: White fly, red spider mites, mealybugs and scale.
